‘Long Reads’ focus on original, iconoclastic perspectives and in particular explore ‘high impact uncertainties’ that generate extreme possible scenarios and herald potential large-scale structural or systemic disruption.
Typically they take a long view, five, ten or twenty years ahead. Occasionally they explore scenario outcomes linked to particular pivotal developments, such as the possible pathways that may emerge for the UK and the EU post Brexit, the future of US politics, or ‘exit’ strategies from the COVID-19 pandemic, for individual countries and sectors.
They also explore how to think about the future, the importance of imagination and the role of narrative and story in identifying emerging systemic risk. Open thinking is as important as simulating the possible futures of global warming, geo-political flash points, or sustainable development.
